FAQs

What do I need to provide to start the process?

Essentially, you will need to provide the text, photos and logo that you would like on your site. If you don’t have any of the above, we can work with you to help design a logo or to acquire any image files that would help with the overall look of your site.

My friend (or family member) knows HTML, couldn’t he make my web site?

Unless this person is a web design professional it is not the best choice for your commercial site. A poorly designed site will reflect on your business and can actually drive potential customers away. We’ve seen these relationships break down so many times leaving both parties in a state of frustration. When it comes to your business, doesn’t it make sense to invest in the tools and providers who will help take your company to the next level?

Having a knowledgeable web design professional is the key to making your web site work for your benefit. As far as the Internet is concerned, it is not just an “if you build it, they will come” scenario. A well-designed and properly marketed web site will increase your revenue and client base. A poorly designed and marketed web site may only hurt your business.

What are the deposit requirements?

A down payment of 50% is required for any design project. The down payment is required before the project is placed on our Design Calendar. This down payment is non-refundable unless we need to cancel the project ourselves. The remaining 50% is due upon completion of the project.

All web hosting, e-commerce software packages, domain name registration, third party software needs and related fees are payable in advance.

What is your policy on web/blog design revisions?

Each website/blog design includes up to three different mockups. After reviewing the first mockup, the client will submit specific feedback, including every change that should be made. If the mockup is not acceptable at all, a second mockup will be sent based on feedback from the first. The same would occur for the third mockup. The client is expected to communicate his feedback with concrete language and/or examples. Additional changes to the design after final approval will incur further charges.

How long will it take to get a site developed?

We cannot guarantee that your project will be completed in a specific amount of time, although most website/blog design projects are completed within 2-3 weeks depending on how quickly we receive client feedback and how many revisions are needed. The length of time to create your site also depends on the complexity and size of the web design. If you have a specific deadline for a project, make sure you make us aware of the deadline before your project is scheduled on our Design Calendar.

How is a site kept up to date? Can updates be made in-house?

Every time a viewer returns to your web site they are that much closer to becoming a client. To keep them coming back to your site, we recommend updating your content periodically. Red Jay Studios can update your site for you for a fee based on how often you would like to update it and the complexity of the updates. We can also provide a solution which will allow you to update specific areas of your web site.

Can I start a small website and add to it later?

Sure! Some of our projects have been planned out in phases. We will design your site to fill your current needs. Then, as your needs grown and change your site can be changed with them.

How will we communicate?

Communication is key to the successful completion of any project. The preferred methods of communication are Skype (text & voice chat only), email, and phone. (You will need to register for Skype’s free service if you are not registered currently.) Skype chats are the ideal for discussing revisions at the beginning of the project because revisions can be done immediately and then submitted to the client for feedback. Clients are asked to respond in a timely manner to emails, calls, and chats, realizing that extensive delays in responding will extend the time of the project and possibly interfere with other projects on our Design Calendar.

Who owns my website once it is finished?

Some web designers retain the rights to the sites they build and may even charge you a fee to take “your” site and move it to another host.

When you purchase our services, we create the web site for you! At the end of the transaction you are the owner of the site. You can move it wherever you would like, copy it, make changes to it – anything you would like. It is yours. However, our one stipulation that will always remain true is that credit must be given where credit is due.  At the minimum a link at the bottom of the site with design credits is required. I do however reserve the right at anytime to ask that my credits be removed if the design gets hacked up in a way that I’m uncomfortable with and is no longer a true reflection of my aesthetic.

Will my web site be browser compatible?

Custom theme designs are designed to be compatible with IE 7 and 8, Firefox 3 and above, Safari 3 and above, and Chrome.
